Catastrophic health expenditure and household impoverishment in Togo

This peer review journal article published in 2023 analyses catastrophic health expenditures and effects on household impoverishment in Togo.  Since 2015, Togo has been committed to working towards ensuring access to quality health care without its citizens incurring catastrophic expenses and developed a coherent health financing (HF) strategy for universal health coverage in 2020. The government adopted a law in 2021 establishing universal health insurance, with the expectation that health insurance will help reduce the incidence of catastrophic health spending and improve equity.
