The UNICEF report presents a comprehensive costing study on delivering COVID-19 vaccines in Botswana, employing both top-down and bottom-up methodologies. The analysis encompasses expenses incurred by various government sectors, parastatals, donors/partners, and NGOs, factoring in fiscal costs and the value of existing human resources. The total fiscal cost of delivering COVID-19 vaccines in Botswana over 13 months is estimated at US$49.8 million, with over half of these costs attributed to newly hired human resources essential for vaccine delivery, planning, coordination, and social mobilization efforts. The value of existing human resources redeployed to support vaccination efforts is estimated at $36.6 million. With 2.6 million doses delivered, the fiscal delivery cost per dose was $19.12, significantly higher than both modelled estimates and the costs associated with routine childhood vaccine delivery.
