With politico-social stability restored since 2012, Côte d’Ivoire is enjoying sustained growth of around 8%, and GDP/capita of USD 1,553 (2016) makes it a middle-income country. However, around 46% of the Ivorian population lives below the national poverty line, and this figure rises to 57% in the worst-affected rural areas1. With a Human Development Index of 0.492 (2017), Côte d’Ivoire is ranked among low-HDI countries and 171st out of 1892. Life expectancy at birth is just 53.6 years (2016)3. Through the National Development Plan (NDP) 2016-2020 and the National Health Development Plan (NHDP) 2016-2020, the Government of Côte d’Ivoire is firmly committed to the Sustainable Development Goals. In November 2017, Côte d’Ivoire joined the Global Financing Facility (GFF) initiative in support of the “every woman, every child” strategy and has just inclusively written its 2020-2023 Investment Package (IP).
By improving maternal and child health, this DI will act as a lever to accelerate the necessary reforms of the healthcare system, towards greater effectiveness and efficiency, in order to achieve Universal Health Coverage.
