Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Global Fund) have signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate on resource mobilization for the effective delivery of health services to vulnerable populations in Asia and the Pacific.
This collaboration will explore various financing methods to increase domestic health resources and attract additional funding for enhanced concessionality, technical assistance, and effective monitoring of health programs. The initiative aims to foster joint investments, with a focus on loan buy-downs and co-financing of health projects, to improve primary healthcare services and combat infectious diseases like malaria and tuberculosis.
The partnership also seeks to build the capacity of countries to efficiently and sustainably finance health systems, leveraging the Global Fund’s expertise in infectious disease control and ADB’s focus on policy and financial capacity. The ultimate goal is to drive impactful health interventions, ensuring a smoother transition away from Global Fund grants while promoting sustainability in domestic health financing.
“The two organizations will also build the capacity of countries for more efficient and sustainable financing across health systems, to make better use of limited domestic and international health resources.”
