Botswana has announced a major new partnership with the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation aimed at transforming the country’s healthcare system, with a focus on maternal health, universal health coverage (UHC), and primary healthcare services. President Duma Boko welcomed the Foundation’s Vice President, Dr. Senait Fisseha, for high-level discussions on collaborative financing and support for sustainable health development.
The partnership will support the development of national strategies and policies to enhance maternal healthcare, including a national surgical, obstetric, and gynaecological plan to ensure safer childbirth. It will also strengthen primary healthcare services and improve the prevention and treatment of non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
Dr. Fisseha, a globally recognised expert in reproductive health, commended President Boko for his data-driven approach and commitment to digitalising the health sector. Health Minister Dr. Stephen Modise noted that the agreement marks a significant step toward securing long-term investment in Botswana’s health system.
