Burkina Faso: health and social protection players harmonize their knowledge

The General Directorate of Social Protection, in collaboration with the International Labor Organization, is seeking to equip its stakeholders in the universal health insurance scheme (RAMU). The first of its kind, this 3-day event will equip trainees with techniques for analyzing the performance of national health and social protection systems.

“Harmonizing the knowledge and understanding of the key players involved in the governance and implementation of health insurance is essential to the success of this public policy”. Hamidou SAWADOGO, Secretary General, Ministry of Social Protection.

He adds that it is very gratifying to note the large number of healthcare access financing programs that have been developed in Burkina.

For him, it’s even more important that these programs actually serve to give people financial access to healthcare. Because, he says,  ” it emerges that these programs often lack coherence, even though they are aimed at the same targets, which can undermine government action and result in an inefficient use of public resources .

Abdoul Kader Koné, Director of Mutuality Promotion at the General Directorate of Social Protection, is the project’s driving force. For him, this training session aims to build the capacities of the key players involved in implementing the universal health insurance scheme.
