Conseil Nationale de Santé 2025: Congolese healthcare takes a strategic step forward

In Congo, the National Health Council brought together 15 ministers and multiple stakeholders on July 2025 in Brazzaville. Financing and governance were at the heart of the debates.

In Congo Brazzavile, the National Health Council (CNS) brought together 15 ministers and multiple stakeholders on July 2025. During the discussions, the speakers (including health economists and members of the Treasury) were able to work on ways of diversifying resources. In addition to the state budget, discussions focused on taxes on risky products, public-private partnerships and community financing. There was also mention of the importance of accountability and transparency in attracting investment to the sector.

Nine recommendations were adopted at the end of the three-day meeting, covering CNS reform, equipment modernization, strengthening the local civil service and community participation in healthcare governance. The aim is to move towards universal health coverage by 2030, in line with Sustainable Development Goal 3. The Minister of Health, Professor Ibara, recalled that “health equity is not an option, but a foundation for social cohesion”.
