Free health care operation: some private health facilities suspended

In a note dated March 4, 2024, the Ministry of Health invites managers of private, non-denominational health facilities to temporarily suspend the implementation of free healthcare for women and children under the age of 05, from March 1, 2024.

The note signed by the Minister of Health and Public Hygiene, Dr Lucien KARGOUGOU, reads: “This operation will lead to a redefinition of the conditions for inclusion and the monitoring of free care in private health facilities” in Burkina Faso.

While welcoming the voluntary commitment of these health facilities in implementing this policy of free care, the Minister of Health specifies in his note that the suspension, which takes effect from March 1, is aimed at strengthening efficiency through a detailed analysis of practices, billing methods and the inclusion of claimants.
