The Togolese government has announced that in 2021, the initiative will cost Togo more than 07 billion CFA francs. A clear commitment to improving physical conditions for pregnant women and newborns.
The implementation of the “Santé maternelle et néonatale Muskoka” project since 2011 bears witness to this commitment on the part of the Togolese authorities. It reduces maternal, neonatal and infant mortality ; ensures easy access to medicines and care for mothers, newborns, children and adolescents; strengthens early childhood development etc. The project reduced neonatal mortality by 37% and infant mortality (under 05) by 52%, between 1990 and 2018. Over the same period, the rate of births attended by qualified personnel increased by 11%. (source )
The implementation of this program will complement the measure to subsidize caesarean sections by almost 90%, the cost of which was estimated at 80 000 FCFA in 2011, according to an NGO involved in access to healthcare.
