As part of the implementation of the “GBESSOKE” productive social safety net program, 34,000 Personal Identification Number certificates were handed over to the program’s Implementation Support Unit (CAMO) on June 13 in Cotonou.
The Government of Benin, through the Ministry of Social Affairs and Microfinance (MASM), has set up a sectoral program of Productive Social Safety Nets called GBESSOKE, with the aim of bringing up to standard and increasing the number of infrastructures intended for the delivery of social services and benefits, and supporting the productive and empowerment capacity of extreme poor households and those suffering from covariant shocks for their economic recovery.
It came into force in October 2023 and is being implemented in line with the Government Action Program (PAG) 2021-2026.
Work has been underway for several months to get it up and running.
As a prelude to its official launch, which will kick-start cash transfers to beneficiaries, these cards have been issued to those who do not have one.
The numbers distributed to 34,000 beneficiaries of the GBESSOKE program will enable them to prove the authenticity of their personalities, in order to benefit fully from all the support planned by the Government to help them out of their precarious situation.
