Harvard Symposium: Reimagining Financing and Governance for Global Health

The 2024 HGHI Global Health Symposium explores how cross-sector partnerships can revolutionize financing and governance for a healthier world.

The Harvard Global Health Institute (HGHI) is set to host a panel discussion on “Reimagining Financing and Governance for Global Health” at its 2024 Global Health Symposium on April 18th. This session, co-hosted by the Petrie-Flom Center for Health Law Policy, Biotechnology, and Bioethics at Harvard Law School, promises to explore how collaboration across sectors is revolutionizing how we finance and govern global health initiatives.

The panel, taking place from 10:15 AM to 11:10 AM, will be introduced by I. Glenn Cohen, a prominent law professor and Faculty Director at the Petrie-Flom Center. Leading the discussion will be Alicia Ely Yamin, a legal scholar and human rights advocate with extensive experience in global health policy.

The esteemed panel of speakers includes:

  • Jayati Ghosh, PhD: Professor of Economics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, bringing economic expertise to the conversation.
  • David McCoy, DrPH: Leading research on translating evidence into policy at the United Nations University’s International Institute for Global Health.
  • Gregg Gonsalves, PhD: Associate Professor at Yale School of Public Health and Co-Director of the Global Health Justice Partnership, offering a critical perspective on health equity.

The session delves into how partnerships between governments, non-profit organisations (NGOs), academia, and the private sector can reshape traditional approaches. Attendees will gain insights into:

  • Innovative financing mechanisms to mobilise resources more effectively.
  • Strategies for building accountable and transparent governance frameworks.
  • How collaboration across sectors can promote health equity on a global scale.

The panel aims to illuminate the transformative potential of reimagined financing and governance models for global health by fostering dialogue on these crucial issues. This session is of interest to those invested in creating a healthier world through collaborative action.
