The growth in recent health care spending in the United States of America (USA) is driven by a combination of public and private sources through improved health insurance coverage (both private and Medicare/Medicaid programs).
In 2018 the USA was the country which spent the highest amount on health care in the world. In this article, Ahmed Aboulenein from Reuters notes that despite the positive news regarding coverage, growth in health spending is faster than the country’s economic growth. And health spending in the USA continues to grow. Currently it is estimated that in 2023, 93% of the population in the USA had health coverage.
