Indonesia’s Health Ministry, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the World Health Organization (WHO), unveiled a new funding initiative to build a more climate-resilient health system.
According to Asia News Network, reported by Dio Suhenda, Indonesia is among the countries most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. The new funding initiative for more climate-resilient health system is developed by Indonesia’s Health Ministry, in collaboration with UNDP and WHO. The initiative is supported by the Green Climate Fund, a multilateral financing mechanism that pools donations to support developing countries to response the climate change related issues.
The funding initiative aims to make Indonesia’s health system more resilient to the climate crisis by funding research and pilot projects to deepen knowledge on the issue, as well as by motivate hospitals to decrease carbon emissions. The Health Ministry urged that the implementation of this initiative needs support from all relevant ministries. While the best way to disburse this fund is under working process between UNDP, WHO, the Health Ministry and other local authorities.
