At the round table meeting conducted to discuss the collaboration between WHO Country Office in Kazakhstan, Vice Minister of Healthcare and the Chief State Sanitary Doctor of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aizhan Esmagambetova reminded that Kazakhstan aims to reach the level of financing for PHC at 60% of all health care expenditures.
The round table discussion was held in capital city Nur-Sultan and centered around the work done by WHO for Kazakhstan during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the goals for the next two years of joint work.
“To ensure universal health coverage, we recognize the importance of primary health care (PHC) and increase the share of financing of PHC services up to 60% of all health care costs,” said A. Esmagambetova.
While arguing that PHC is an important tool for achieving universal health coverage, she reminded that “the COVID-19 pandemic has taught us a valuable lesson about the importance of PHC during emergencies. Acknowledging the connection between two important concepts for global health: universal health coverage and primary health care, Kazakhstan invites countries to take part in a side event titled “Primary Health Care: a Driving Force for UHC”, to be held this year,” said A. Esmagambetova.
