On his arrival last year, Burkina Faso’s Minister of Health was quick to call for an analysis of the efficiency of healthcare spending. In parallel with the GFF process, it commissioned an internal study to address some of its concerns:
- is the current allocation of resources in line with available evidence in terms of disease burden?
- are the interventions of a nature likely to have the greatest impact (preventive vs. curative) and, in the same spirit, are they directed towards the appropriate level of the health pyramid (all in the light of national and international experience demonstrating good practice).
- are the geographic areas and/or populations affected by the conditions that account for the largest share of the burden of disease effectively targeted by interventions?
Three consultants, including two agents from the Ministry of Health, will work for 25 days to address these concerns. With its own funding, this study should be able to contribute to the political dialogue, as it is requested by and for the Ministry itself.
