The Maldives and Thailand signed a MoU to enhance cooperation in health care, focusing on strengthening primary health care in the Maldives and improving regulatory systems. The agreement encompasses areas such as training for health professionals, health policy research, and innovative financing for health promotion.
The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Maldives and the Ministry of Public Health of the Kingdom of Thailand signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance collaboration in health care. This agreement aims to strengthen primary health care in the Maldives and improve the regulatory capacity of the Maldives Food and Drug Authority.
Key areas of cooperation include training for health professionals, human resource development, health policy research, health information technology, and innovative financing for health promotion.
Saima Wazed, Regional Director of WHO South-East Asia, emphasized the significance of this partnership during a signing event at the Seventy-Eighth World Health Assembly, noting that it exemplifies cooperation, solidarity, and friendship.
Maldives’ Minister of Health, Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim, described the MoU as a crucial milestone that reflects both countries’ shared commitment to advancing universal health coverage and resilient health systems, and he expressed gratitude for Thailand’s ongoing support in public health initiatives.
The Deputy Minister of Public Health of Thailand, Mr. Dej-is Khaothong, highlighted that the MoU is a tangible outcome of dialogues initiated at the previous year’s World Health Assembly. He underlined its potential to foster collaboration in key areas, such as primary health care and regulatory systems.
Wazed commended the two nations’ proactive response to emerging health challenges, such as increasing health care costs and technological changes, by prioritizing inclusion and quality. She recognized their commitment to innovation and data use as vital in navigating the evolving health landscape, presenting their cooperation as a powerful example of unity and collaboration that benefits their populations and serves as a model for the region and the world.
