Mali: CANAM balances its duty of accountability with the need to strengthen its action

In Bamako, as in other parts of Mali, many citizens are unhappy that certain medicines are not covered by the Assurance Maladie Obligatoire (AMO). This week, the Caisse Nationale d’Assurance Maladie (CANAM) claims to be hard at work revising the list of drugs established since 2012 to bring relief to the population.

During a workshop held in Bamako, CANAM officials were reassuring and promised a new list of medicines.

A completely different workshop was held in the Malian capital, bringing together players in the field. The workshop was devoted exclusively to informing journalists and raising their awareness of the abuses committed by certain policyholders. The players in charge of the social measure emphasized the negative effects of this phenomenon , which jeopardizes the short-, medium- and long-term benefits of compulsory health insurance.
