The health sector in Paraguay is a priority in the 2025 national budget. Almost one third of the allocation for health is earmarked for medicines. This contributes to the protection against catastrophic expenditures, as medicines can be one of the causes.
The nation’s 2025 general budget was approved by the senate in Paraguay in November 2024. The health sector is a priority for the state. The allocation for health in 2025 amounts to 95 billion guaraníes (USD 12 million), of which 3 billion are earmarked for essential medicines for users. There is also an allocation for the financing of high complexity and high cost medical care. In these ways the government is contributing to minimize catastrophic health spending for the Paraguayan population.
