Theme: Addressing inequities in access to health care
ITCILO, CONNECT for Social Health Protection and P4H Network is back with its annual Course on Social Health Protection for public health practitioners and researchers in March held online and in Turin, Italy.
The global impact of COVID-19 has underscored the critical importance of ensuring access to health care and income security for all, with a special emphasis on vulnerable groups. While efforts have been made to strengthen national social protection systems and improve health access, the pandemic has revealed significant gaps and inequities in coverage that demand urgent attention. In response to these challenges, the International Training Institute of the ILO present this course.
This comprehensive course focuses on health coverage within the framework of national social protection systems, delving into the objectives of social health protection and its pivotal role in achieving universal health coverage (UHC) and universal social protection (USP) outlined in the 2030 Agenda. Participants will gain insights into the global and country-level landscape of health coverage, exploring the guiding principles provided by ILO standards for designing and operationalising social health protection schemes. The course will specifically concentrate on expanding the various dimensions of coverage, offering technical options for coverage expansion.
This course is tailored for executives, managers, planners, financial officers, and other professionals responsible for healthcare and social health insurance schemes in both governmental and non-governmental sectors. Representatives from employers’ and workers’ organizations are particularly encouraged to participate. While the course primarily addresses the needs of practitioners and policymakers, individuals working in research roles within health financing systems will also find immense value in this training activity.
