In Senegal, healthcare financing is still characterized by the predominance of direct household payments and the inadequacy of prepayment mechanisms such as taxes and health insurance. Indeed, in light of the 2014-2016 health accounts, households, as the financing agent of the direct payment scheme, contribute 50.7% of current healthcare expenditure. In this situation, the risk of incurring significant healthcare costs is very high, especially for households with no health coverage at all.
A workshop is therefore being held this June 17 by videoconference to validate the report on the study carried out on catastrophic spending between 2014 and 2019.
