Social protection in health: Mali draws inspiration from the Moroccan experience

In February 2024, the Minister of Health and Social Development took part in the opening ceremony of the 11th African Conference on Sexual and Reproductive Health in Morocco. The trip was an opportunity to learn more about the Moroccan experience in health insurance.

During its stay in Rabat, the Malian delegation led by the Minister of Health and Social Development, Colonel Assa Badiallo TOURÉ, visited the head office of the country’s National Health Insurance Agency. Morocco (ANAM) for a working visit on the Moroccan experience in caring for the indigent and the mechanisms of compulsory health insurance coverage.

ANAM’s General Manager, Dr. Khalid Lahlou and his team gave a presentation on the agency’s history, missions and reforms in the regulation of Morocco’s health insurance system from 2005 to the present day. At the end of the presentation, the Malian Minister expressed her total satisfaction following the presentation and the answers to the questions raised by the members of the Malian delegation, and also indicated that this Moroccan model could inspire Malian experts to correct shortcomings and improve the effective and efficient care of beneficiaries of the Malian National Health Insurance Fund (CANAM).
