The Sector Director for Health, Nutrition and Population for West and Central Africa led a delegation to the Caisse Nationale d’Assurance Maladie (CANAM) in Bamako on November 14. The meeting focused on the performance and prospects of Mali’s health portfolio.
Moulay Driss Zine Eddine El Idrissi was heading a World Bank delegation in the Malian capital as part of a tour of the region. At CANAM, the ARISE project, in particular its component supporting the reform of the Universal Health Insurance Scheme (RAMU), was at the heart of the discussions. This initiative, it should be remembered, provides support for CANAM in areas such as extending health insurance coverage, adopting best governance practices, improving stakeholder coordination, building skills and managing information systems.
This was an opportunity for the Caisse’s General Manager to highlight the positive results obtained thanks to the project. Accelerating Progress Towards Health Coverage (SOPHA) project, which will be implemented in 2023 thanks to funding from the World Bank, the Global Finance Facility (GFF) and the Netherlands. This project,” recalled Brigadier General Boubacar Dembélé, “has improved governance, quality of care, staff motivation, and has contributed to the improvement of performance indicators compared to non-covered areas in Mali.
The General Manager of CANAM also informed the delegation that several texts relating to the Health Insurance Scheme (RAMU) have been adopted, with the exception of the one concerning its financing, which is still in the process of being approved.
