Universal health coverage in Benin: a clear political commitment

The Beninese government is continuing its efforts to make access to essential health services a reality for all citizens.

Since April 2016, the Beninese authorities have been committed to making health “an essential dimension of the population’s well-being and a key factor in its productivity”..
The Government has thus undertaken far-reaching reforms aimed at reorganizing the health system and guaranteeing populations broad coverage of better-quality healthcare.

According to Benin‘s Minister of Health, management and leadership in the health system had to be strengthened, with the creation of several bodies, notably the National Council for Primary Health Care and the National Council for Hospital Medicine.

In addition to these bodies, there is the Agence béninoise du médicament et des autres produits de santé, the Agence nationale de contrôle de qualité des produits de santé et de l’eau, and the Agence des infrastructures sanitaires, des équipements et de la maintenance.

In favor of the CSU, the government has also taken into account the issue of cleaning up the private practice of medical and paramedical professions.
This has led to the closure of over 1,300 illegal health establishments nationwide.

On the financial side, reassures the Minister in charge of social affairs, the government has made substantial resources available for the implementation of the generalization process of theInsurance for the reinforcement of human capital (Arch): more than ten billion F CFA have been injected into the project since its implementation in favor of vulnerable people.
