Uzbekistan adopted a roadmap of projects with UNICEF worth 102.5 mln USD

Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan, together with UNICEF, agreed to implement a set of projects worth $102.5 million.

The Minister of Health of Uzbekistan B. Musaev and the head of the UNICEF country office M. Mammadzade signed the Road Map of activities between MoH and UNICEF for 2022-2025.

This document includes activities aimed at developing the healthcare sector of the country in and consists of four directions.

  1. The first direction is aimed at urgent tasks for further improvement of perinatal services in the country. This includes improving knowledge and skills of health workers specializing in maternal and child health, providing health care organizations modern medical equipment, saving the lives of underweight babies and other important activities.
  2. The second direction includes vaccinating children according to the national vaccination schedule, equipping existing sanitary facilities with modern equipment, and overall improving of the immunization processes. In addition, major projects will be implemented aimed at improving the water supply of a number of secondary schools in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, which is important for their sanitary and hygienic condition and the health of students. It also implies addressing a number of issues such as preventing iodine deficiency and anemia in children.
  3. The third area consists of measures aimed at improving the nutrition of mothers and children. Among these activities,  providing 6-23 month-old children and women under 35 with iron and folic acid, developing nutrition standards in secondary schools.

  4. The last direction involves improving the quality of medical services for adolescents. Projects such as the development of a national strategy to improve the health of schoolchildren, the preparation of training programs for health workers providing services to adolescents of this age, and the creation of a platform to promote a healthy lifestyle among young people will be implemented.

In general, the implementation of the bilateral “Roadmap” will serve to strengthen the health of the mothers and children in Uzbekistan and to improve the knowledge and qualifications of health workers.
