WHO, Alnowair ink MoU to advance mental health, universal health coverage in Kuwait

The WHO Country Office in Kuwait and Alnowair have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on promoting mental health, advancing universal health coverage, and enhancing community engagement, especially among youth. This partnership aims to empower communities, support national health plans, and raise awareness about the links between environmental sustainability and public health to build a healthier, more resilient Kuwait.

The World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office in Kuwait and Alnowair have formalized a partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at advancing key public health priorities in Kuwait. Signed on July 1, 2025, this agreement establishes a framework for collaborative efforts to promote mental health and wellbeing, support universal health coverage (UHC), and foster community engagement, particularly among youth. The MoU details joint initiatives to empower communities in addressing health challenges, including substance use, by developing and implementing targeted programs. It also commits both organizations to support Kuwait’s national health plans for UHC by designing and deploying community-based health interventions that increase accessibility and effectiveness. Furthermore, the partnership will focus on engaging youth and broader communities in health advocacy and awareness campaigns, emphasizing the interconnectedness of environmental sustainability and public health outcomes.

Dr Assad Hafeez, WHO Representative in Kuwait, highlighted the significance of this partnership, noting its foundation in the shared belief that positive community engagement and attention to mental health, youth, and environmental issues are vital for building healthier societies. Sheikha Intisar Salem Al Ali Al-Sabah, Founder and Chairwoman of Alnowair, echoed this sentiment, stressing that national prosperity is rooted in the wellbeing of its people and reaffirming Alnowair’s commitment to nurturing resilient minds and empowering communities through this collaboration with WHO.
