Cyprus introduced the General Healthcare System (GeSY) in 2019, providing universal coverage, expanding provider networks, and sharply reducing household out-of-pocket healthcare spending. While the system has improved access and decreased unmet medical needs, challenges remain, including workforce imbalances, reliance on specialists, and limited data on care quality. Future priorities include modernizing public hospitals, implementing e-health initiatives, strengthening workforce planning, and integrating quality and performance measures to ensure efficiency and financial sustainability.
