A range of health insurance options including Social Health Insurance exist in Sudan. Social Health Insurance is compulsory for the formal sector, although voluntary for the informal sector and small companies (≤10 employees). Private health insurance companies provide voluntary insurance services, mainly for the employees of private companies and international organizations. Sudan still faces a long road to travel to reach universal health coverage. This peer reviewed study looks at insurers’ insight regarding their perception of the services they provide and the challenges facing them and may allow for better understanding of the challenges to be addressed.
