The JBI Synthesis Analysis report titled “Strategies and Indicators to Integrate Health Equity in Health Service and Delivery Systems in High-Income Countries” aims to elucidate how health equity is defined and operationalized within these systems. The review underscores the necessity of a population health and health equity approach to enhance overall population health. It identifies the implementation strategies and indicators employed to integrate and measure health equity, highlighting that while substantial efforts have focused on reducing health inequities within specific public health or healthcare delivery sectors, less attention has been given to integration across the entire health service and delivery system. This comprehensive review, encompassing both academic and gray literature from 1986 onwards, reveals inconsistencies in definitions, strategies, and indicators of health equity. The findings call for a unified, system-wide approach to health equity integration, emphasizing the importance of robust accountability mechanisms to ensure consistent application and measurement across health service and delivery systems.
