Sustainable Healthcare Financing for SDG3 in ASEAN-6 - P4H Network

Sustainable Healthcare Financing for SDG3 in ASEAN-6

The report by the London School of Economics and Political Science argues for the creation of capacity in (national) budgets that can be used for specific purposes without compromising their financial stability and sustainability in ASEAN-6.

The report discusses the challenge of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in the Asia Pacific, particularly in six ASEAN countries- Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam, due to rising healthcare costs, insufficient government funding, high out-of-pocket spending, and ageing populations. The study aims to analyze the health financing challenges in these countries and explore traditional and innovative financing methods to achieve UHC, addressing questions related to progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 3, organizational and financial challenges in healthcare systems, the fiscal gap, and acceptable financing mechanisms.
