The 2024 health budget reached €22.5 billion, supporting the delivery and expansion of quality, affordable healthcare services in Ireland.
In the government press release, the Irish Health Minister, Mr. Donnelly said, “We’ve implemented several initiatives that remove cost as a barrier to healthcare including the abolition of all public hospital in-patient charges, the expansion of eligibility for GP visit cards, reduction of the monthly Drug Payment Scheme threshold…”.
A new Health Resilience Fund will focus on a range of interventions including:
- Addressing waiting lists;
- Expanding free contraception; and
- Increasing funding for digital health among others.
