On September 24, the 5th Annual Ministerial Meeting of the Group of Friends of Universal Health Coverage and Global Health, themed ‘Financial Protection: The Key to Unlocking Universal Health Coverage and Ensuring Equitable Access for All,’ was held at the UN Headquarters in New York. The event was co-hosted by Thailand, Japan, and Georgia.
The 5th Annual Ministerial Meeting of the Group of Friends on Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and Global Health, co-hosted by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and supported by World Health Organization and UHC2030.
The main discussion focused on the critical role of financial protection in achieving UHC and equitable access for all. It also highlighted the urgent need for sustainable financing to reduce out-of-pocket health costs.
The participants were high-level representatives from countries including Malta, Uganda, and Dominican Republic. Country representatives shared their national experiences and best practices on Universal Health Coverage. They demonstrated support and reinvigorated efforts toward implementation of UHC.
