In its annual edition of Key Social Security Figures, the Social Security Department (DSS) presents a panorama of indicators on the financing and performance of the social security system’s public service for the year 2023.
The report published in June 2024 indicates that €672 bn in revenues were collected in 2023, including €600 bn in consolidated revenues from basic schemes. Businesses and government bodies remain the main funders (54.4%). Of the €585 bn in net benefit payments, 44% will go to the Old-Age branch, 39% to the Sickness branch, 9% to the Family branch, 6% to the Autonomy branch (6%) and 2.5% to the accident and occupational disease branch. The deficit in the accounts of the basic Social Security schemes and the Old Age Solidarity Fund (FSV) will continue to fall, from €19.7 bn in 2022 to €10.8 bn in 2023.
With regard to the performance of organizations, the report shows an improvement in service quality between 2022 and 2023, particularly for the Sickness, Retirement and Family branches, in terms of processing times and telephone reception. On the subject of Social Security policies, the report notes in particular an increase in the number of beneficiaries of the activity allowance (+126,534) and complementary health insurance (+57,659) between 2022 and 2023. The number of beneficiaries of the revenu de solidarité active (RSA), on the other hand, fell over the same period (-30,867).
