Egypt, Armenia explore cooperation opportunities in health sector

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met with Armenian Ambassador Armen Sarkissian to enhance collaboration in the health sector, focusing on pharmaceuticals, training, and health insurance.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, met with Armen Sarkissian, the Armenian Ambassador to Cairo, to discuss strengthening collaboration in the health sector. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, reported that the talks aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation and expanding health partnerships for the benefit of both nations’ citizens.

Key topics included reactivating and modernizing existing agreements between their health ministries, focusing on training programs and the exchange of medical expertise to bolster healthcare capacity. In the pharmaceutical and vaccine sectors, discussions revolved around the export of Egyptian medicines to Armenia and establishing bilateral agreements to facilitate trade. The Armenian delegation was invited to visit the Egyptian Drug Authority to understand regulatory processes and streamline pharmaceutical product registration, particularly through Vacsera.

To promote further collaboration, Minister Abdel Ghaffar suggested a field visit for the Armenian ambassador to Egyptian pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities to observe advanced technological capabilities. The meeting also explored Armenia’s progress in health insurance, with an invitation extended for an Armenian health insurance delegation to visit Egypt to examine its operational mechanisms and challenges.

Additionally, both sides talked about organizing a visit for a delegation of Egyptian pharmaceutical manufacturers and healthcare professionals to Armenia in July to explore business opportunities and strengthen joint health investments. Ambassador Sarkissian expressed Armenia’s strong interest in collaborating with Egypt across healthcare sectors and extended an invitation for Minister Abdel Ghaffar to visit Armenia to further joint health initiatives.
