Ethiopia Joins Brics Health Talks, Backs Stronger Global Cooperation

At the 15th BRICS Health Ministers’ Meeting in Brasília, Ethiopia reaffirmed its commitment to global health equity, emphasizing the need for resilient health systems and progress toward Universal Health Coverage. The country also called for enhanced cooperation among BRICS and partner nations in capacity building and knowledge exchange, highlighting the importance of collective action for lasting health security.

Ethiopia reaffirmed its dedication to global health equity and stronger multilateral cooperation at the 15th BRICS Health Ministers’ Meeting held in Brasília, Brazil. Ambassador Leulseged Tadese emphasized the urgent need to build resilient health systems capable of withstanding future pandemics and emerging health threats. He highlighted Ethiopia’s progress toward achieving Sustainable Development Goal 3, with a particular focus on Universal Health Coverage through enhanced access to healthcare and strengthened primary care services. Ambassador Tadese also called for intensified collaboration among BRICS nations and partner countries in capacity building, technology transfer, and knowledge sharing, underscoring that collective action is vital for sustainable health security.

The meeting concluded with a Joint Declaration reaffirming the participating countries’ commitment to health system resilience, closer cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO), and inclusive approaches to global health development. Ethiopia’s active participation reflects its growing role in international health diplomacy and South-South cooperation as it continues to advance its national health reforms.
