Health Insurance likely to be more expensive this year as the Pandemic increases healthcare costs

Health insurance premiums are expected to grow 1.59 percent this year amid worries over the Covid-19 outbreak says the Thai Insurance Commission with total premiums expected to rise to Bt101 billion in 2021, compared to Bt99 billion last year.

Uncertainty over the Covid-19 outbreak has triggered demand for health insurance policies among customers with high purchasing power. Private companies are offering new health insurance policies which cover medical treatment, physical therapy, medical check-up, and vaccination, with premiums starting at Bt15,000 annually.

This can potentially increase healthcare expenditure for the general population amid loss of livelihood and a lack of social health protection.
