ILO launches “Building social protection foundations for all” project in Burkina Faso

The project “Building Social Protection Floors for All: ILO global flagship program in Burkina Faso” was launched on August 28, 2023 in Ouagadougou by Bassolma Bazié, Minister in charge of Social Protection, in the presence of Frédéric Lapeyre, Director of the ILO Country Office.
As part of the ILO’s Global Flagship Program on Social Protection Floors, the Government of Burkina Faso, in collaboration with the ILO and the Kingdom of Belgium, launched phase 2 of the “Building Social Protection Floors for All” program on Monday, August 28, 2023. According to the project’s national coordinator, Adama Sanou, the main aim of phase 2, like the previous phase, is to strengthen social protection in Burkina Faso by extending health coverage to workers in the informal economy and rural areas. According to Fréderic Lapeyre, Director of the ILO Country Office for Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, Niger and Togo, this project reinforces the efforts already made by Burkina Faso through its national social protection policy. More concretely, the aim here is to study all the chains involved in implementing this health insurance scheme, so as to enable it to be implemented first and then extended to the rural world and the informal economy. This project was made possible thanks to the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium. The launch was chaired by Bassolma Bazié, Minister of State for Social Protection.
