A new study conducted on Latin American data by the Wifor Institute confirms what health economists have been saying for a long time, that investments in a nation’s health are not an expense, they are an investment.
Health economists have long insisted that a nation’s health expenditures should be considered an investment, rather than an expense. A new study focusing on Latin American data shows from its findings that this rule holds true for the region as well, specifically in the case of breast cancer. The study was commented by Daniel Falconi, former finance minister of Ecuador, in November 2025, emphasizing that nations can save budget with preventive health and early care.
