Shirin Amonzoda, PhD, Minister of Labor, Migration and Employment of the Population of Tajikistan, initiated and held a congress on December 16, 2021 in Dushanbe, dedicated to cooperation of the Ministry with donors and partners.
Dr Amonzoda stressed that the Central Asian republic has overcome difficult socio-economic problems and entered a qualitatively new stage of sustainable development. Particular attention was paid to the situation with the poverty level, as reported by state news agency “Khovar”. She added that in 21 years between 1999 and 2020, the country’s poverty rate fell to 26.3%. According to her, the ministry is now trying to digitize its work in order to better monitor labor relations.
The event was supported by UNICEF. The main speaker on the part of the UN Children’s Fund was Osama Makkawi, UNICEF representative in Tajikistan. Makkavi stressed that the digital economy will help the republic create more jobs, adding that to achieve this goal, it was necessary to attract talented personnel.
It is presumed that government efforts to reduce poverty and improve social protection directly affect social determinants of health and health outcomes, and certainly will improve the ability to cover health costs.
