Mexico strengthens its healthcare system by integrating public health and medical care

In order to achieve universal access to health care, the Mexican government knows that public health is a key element of the health system. This way the attention to the population is done in a more efficient way, thus improving the quality of service and waiting times.

Mexico’s Ministry of Health organized the Coordination Meeting of the National Public Health Service (SNSP) in January 2025. This marked an important step towards improving access and efficiency in health care.

The Secretary of Health, David Kershenobich, highlighted that Public Health is an essential pillar of a solid public health system to coordinate policies and improve patient care.
As part of the transformation of IMSS-Bienestar, public health is integrated with medical services. The objectives are to reduce waiting times, improve the quality of care and eliminate barriers to access for the entire population.

During the meeting, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) recognized Mexico’s efforts to strengthen primary care and promote structural changes in the health system.
