Ministers of Health of Azerbaijan and Russia signed an agreement on health collaboration

First Deputy Minister of Healthcare and Acting Minister of Healthcare Teymur Musayev received a delegation led by Russian Healthcare Minister Mikhail Murashko. The event was attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Azerbaijan Mikhail Bocharnikov.

Opening the meeting, Acting Minister of Healthcare Teymur Musayev noted that cooperation between the two countries in health care and medical science was first signed on June 18, 2001 between the Ministry of Healthcare of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Healthcare of the Russian Federation. 

Noting the success of cooperation between the two countries, Musayev thanked Russia for its support in the fight against the pandemic, the provision of PCR tests for coronavirus infection and the Sputnik V vaccine.

Azerbaijan’s Acting Minister recalled that last summer the Minister of Healthcare of Russia Mikhail Murashko visited Azerbaijan and a group of health specialists came to help with the novel coronavirus. “The valuable recommendations of Russian experts have contributed to the stabilization of the epidemiological situation in the country”, said T. Musayev.

Teymur Musayev also reminded that the opening ceremony of the Baku branch of the First Moscow State Medical University named after Sechenov took place on September 15, 2015. This decision was inspired by the initiative of First Vice President of Azerbaijan, graduate of Sechenov University and honorary professor Mehriban Aliyeva.

In turn, Russian Healthcare Minister Mikhail Murashko noted that cooperation between the two countries in health care was in line with the decisions of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Russian Federation. The head of the Russian Ministry of Healthcare highlighted the activities of the Baku branch of the First Moscow State Medical University named after Sechenov, and noted that the first graduation took place this year.

Teymur Musayev and Mikhail Murashko signed a “Renewed Cooperation Agreement in health care and medical science.”

The document contains a “Roadmap for developing priority areas of cooperation between the Ministry of Healthcare of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Healthcare of the Republic of Azerbaijan in health sector for 2021-2024.

Roadmap areas of cooperation include: infectious and non-communicable diseases; professional development of medical workers; establishing direct contacts between research institutes; establishment of relations between scientific medical institutions and communities, and more.

In addition, the Roadmap includes exchange of specialists by conducting seminars on priority health issues.

The document aims to implement the Protocol of the 19th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Azerbaijan, signed in Moscow on April 27, 2021.
