New study highlights the relevance of social determinants of health in Mozambique

A recent study published by Sam Jones and Alba Llop (Copenhaguen University) puts the focus on the identification of Social Determinants of Health that significantly influence health inequalities. These SDH are crucial for the design of appropriate evidence-based policy responses and actions. SDH are identified as deeper socio-economic causes of poor health, in particular those related to structural factors (urban planning, agriculture, education, transport, mining, pollution) which have not been given sufficient attention.

While disease-oriented health care programmes and policies do offer important palliative responses to health challenges, longer-run and integrated public health interventions are needed to address the current health equity gap in Mozambique.
