P4HC+ Special Meeting: UHC for the informal sector population - P4H Network

P4HC+ Special Meeting: UHC for the informal sector population

On March 8th, 9.00-12.00 the World Bank will host a P4HC+ session concerning UHC for the informal sector population. The objective is to take stock of new initiatives, current developments and thinking concerning this matter and to discuss these.

For clarity, informal sector population is understood as:

  • People who do not receive health coverage through formal employment arrangements including those who work for unregistered or small enterprises, in subsistence agriculture, are unemployed or are not economically active (source: Bonfert et al. (2015) Closing the Gap: Health Coverage for Non-poor Informal Sector Workers. Joint Learning Network for Universal Health Coverage).

Presentations, each 10 minutes maximum, include experiences with or opinions about:

  • JICA/Global Link Management on pilot on social health insurance for the informal sector population (SHIP)
  • GRET on health insurance for the Phnom Penh informal sector population
  • ILO on health insurance for construction workers
  • HP+ on feasibility of soliciting equitable contributions from the rural informal sector population
  • GIZ on HEF for the informal sector population

This will be complemented by the latest reflections of the Department of Planning and Health Information as expressed in the Discussion paper for the 2nd UHC Forum.
