R4D and SPARC unveil toolkit to enhance strategic health purchasing

R4D and SPARC have launched a toolkit to help countries evaluate and improve strategic health purchasing. The toolkit offers guidance for optimizing healthcare spending, with resources and real-world examples from over 20 countries in Africa and Asia.

Results for Development (R4D) and the Strategic Purchasing Africa Resource Center (SPARC) have released a new toolkit aimed at helping countries assess progress in strategic health purchasing. Launched on October 16, 2024, this resource supports policymakers, researchers, and stakeholders seeking to make more effective health purchasing decisions.

The Strategic Health Purchasing Progress Tracking Framework toolkit offers a practical guide for evaluating and advancing health financing strategies, directing resources toward priority populations and interventions. Designed for a system-wide impact, the toolkit provides actionable insights and examples from African and Asian nations, helping countries move closer to Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by maximizing the quality and efficiency of healthcare spending.

Key Toolkit Benefits:

  • Incremental, scalable improvements to health purchasing processes
  • Guidance on adapting policies at both system and agency levels
  • Resources, tips, and real-world testimonials from over 20 countries

According to R4D Managing Director Cheryl Cashin, this toolkit helps bridge evidence and policy, empowering countries to make data-driven strides in health purchasing reform.
