Togo expands Universal Health Insurance to self-employed and informal workers, enabling thousands previously excluded to access health coverage through flexible payments, covering care for up to six dependents, and boosting financial inclusion via a new digital platform.
Togo’s CNSS expanded its Universal Health Insurance (AMU) on October 7, 2025, to include self-employed and informal sector workers, enabling thousands previously excluded from health coverage to access benefits. The scheme offers flexible payment options and covers preventive, curative, and hospital care for contributors and up to six dependents. Access requires a 90-day waiting period and partial coverage for lab tests and essential medicines is included. Benefits suspend after two months of non-payment to ensure sustainability. A new digital platform facilitates easy registration, payments, and management online, aimed at increasing financial inclusion and administrative efficiency within the informal economy. This reform aligns with the government’s commitment to universal social protection as a leverage for sustainable development.
