Several development partners including WHO, UNHCR, CDC, SIDA, USAID among others met with the Uganda parliamentary committee on health in November 2021 where they discussed issues affecting the county’s health sector. Among the issues that were discussed, the development partners made a call for the need to increase funding to the health sector. Currently, the health budget allocated to the health sector in Uganda is 6.1% which falls way below the Abuja target of 15%. Dr Kasozi, the chairperson of the health development partners said that in Uganda health financing attributes are concerning given a lack of increase in health expenditure. He asked the committee to convince the central government to fast track the operationalisation of the national health insurance scheme as it would help lower out-of-pocket expenditure on medical care.
