On April 1, a campaign to vaccinate the population against the COVID-19 was launched in Uzbekistan. Uzbeks started the vaccination campaign with the AstraZeneca vaccine, and a recombinant drug from the Chinese Anhui Zhifei Longcom Biopharmaceutica.
Last month the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov, at a meeting with his Russian counterpart, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin in Kazan, asked Moscow to increase the supply of Sputnik V and consider the possibility of its production in Uzbekistan. Later, the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Mikhail Murashko confirmed that the parties agreed on the localization of vaccine production in Uzbekistan and that the Uzbek side has selected the production site.
On April 23, the Uzbek authorities received the first batch of Sputnik V, on April 27 – the second delivery was made, and on June 1, the third batch of the Russian vaccine was delivered to Uzbekistan. On June 10, the authorities of Uzbekistan received the fourth batch of Sputnik V vaccine against COVID-19, according to the press service of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health Service of Uzbekistan.
The universal coverage of the population of Uzbekistan with vaccines against COVID-19 is aimed through such regional collaboration efforts made possible with State funding. As of today, more than 1.5 million people have been vaccinated in the country.
