During a recent meeting, the WHO Director-General commended Vietnam for its effective health policies, particularly in disease prevention, primary healthcare development, and progress toward universal health coverage. He reaffirmed WHO’s commitment to supporting Vietnam, especially in strengthening grassroots healthcare, improving health-related policies, and promoting sustainable public health initiatives. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed gratitude for WHO’s vital support during the COVID-19 pandemic, which contributed to Vietnam’s successful containment and rapid recovery. He outlined Vietnam’s shift in healthcare strategy, emphasizing disease prevention, health promotion, and the enhancement of primary healthcare and public health infrastructure.
The Prime Minister underscored Vietnam’s reliance on WHO guidance for monitoring global disease trends and called on the organization to continue leading in disease research, early warning systems, and international health cooperation. He also requested expert support for policy development and infrastructure improvement. Both sides agreed to deepen collaboration to strengthen Vietnam’s health system and enhance global health security.
