This National Health Accounts report for Fiji provides health expenditures information for the period of 2011-2015 and tracks health expenditures from financing sources to health services and beneficiaries. An average of 9% of total government expenditure funded the health sector during this period.
The public health expenditure contributed to 63.1% of the current health expenditure and increased over these five years. Hospitals accounted for the largest share of Government spending (62%). As a percentage of Gross Domestic Product, government health expenditure averaged 3.0% over the period of 2003 to 2015.
This information provides decision makers evidence-based opportunities for improving access, equity, efficiency, and financial risk protection as part of the national effort to bring services closer to the citizens and accelerate Fiji’s progress towards universal health coverage.
