Brazil’s Ministry of Health announces initiatives to strengthen provision of specialized care by strengthening public-private relations in the health sector.
The Brazilian Ministry of Health announced in May 2025, a series of initiatives to promote the availability of specialized care services as part of the Unified Health System (Sistema Unico de Saúde – SUS). A package of actions with providers is to be launched to promote the use of idle capacity in public and private establishments, using debts as an exchange. The scope of this initiative also includes expanding the number of private hospitals in the Institutional Development Support Program for the Unified Health System (PROADI-SUS). The involvement of health insurance providers is under study in an effort to promote efficiency, for example, with more timely reimbursements.
