Members of El Salvador’s Legislative Assembly approved a budget increase to support the Salud Inteligente Integral (PROSIN) program at the national level. Components include digital health, strengthening health resilience and strengthening the network.
On February 19, 2025 the deputies of the Legislative Assembly voted a reform to El Salvador’s budget, which increases health spending by US$ 13,500,000. This increase is earmarked in part for the Salud Inteligente Integral (PROSIN) program, a national program focusing on the area of chronic non-communicable diseases.
As the Pan American Health Organization report highlights, chronic diseases are a major factor in the high out-of-pocket expenditures prevalent in the Latin American and Caribbean region. In addition, expenditures for prescription drugs for chronic conditions can contribute to catastrophic expenditures, particularly for populations living in vulnerable or marginalized populations.
